LITERACY NIGHT Workshops 2023!!!!
February 23rd 4:30pm - 6:30pm

We are so excited to be reviving Kenter Canyon Literacy Night for the first time since 2019!! We have so many
amazing things in store!

What’s in store:

  • Author Yogi Roth reading from his children’s book Finding Free Fun (across from the cafeteria)
  • The Book Fair (inside the auditorium)
  • The Book Truck → mobile bookstore / book boutique on wheels for adults in the front loop
  • Book Swap (bring a book / take a book)
  • Workshops Galore

BOOK SWAP → please bring old books to swap for a new read! Bring as many as you like! Books from
older siblings are desired. Bring them on the 23rd or ahead of time and leave them in the library.

  • Please use Sign Up Genius to register for the workshops your student would like to attend (max of 2 workshops - one @ 5pm and/or one @ 6pm).
  • Please only sign up for each workshop one time so that everyone gets a chance to attend them (limited to current Kenter students only).
  • PIZZA and Concessions for SALE in the cafeteria while supplies last.

***This is a community-building, free event for our Kenter Family sponsored by PSG***
**This is not a drop off event. Parents must accompany their children throughout the evening. **

 

THE WORKSHOPS

Rainbow Fish workshop (TK-K)
Come share your true colors with The Rainbow Fish! Add YOUR sparkle to OUR school of fish.

Give a Mouse A Cookie workshop (TK-K)
Read Give A Mouse A Cookie and retell the story through a crafts project and wear it home!
Presented by Ms. Stephens

Student Choice Book Awards workshop (Grades 1-2)
Adults choose the winners of most awards, but for the California Young Reader Medal, kids get to vote!
Come hear all 5 nominees for the Picture Book category and vote for your favorite.

Collaborative Writing workshop (Grades 1-2)
Come join in a guided workshop to collaboratively write a creative story. Bring your imagination as we
enter the wonderful world of writing! You will receive a copy of our written story!
Presented by Ms. Laham with assistance from Mr. Frederique

Eric Carle workshop (Grades 1-3)
Join in to hear stories by children’s author Eric Carle and create artwork inspired by his distinct style
using tissue paper and paint. Be ready to be messy!

Mad Libs workshop (Grades 3-4)
Come join this workshop where we will review and practice using parts of speech in a fun way! You will
work with partners to fill out Mad Libs stories and then share your completed silly stories with each
other.

Music Inspired Writing workshop (Grades 3-5)
Songs make us feel so many different ways. How do songs bring out our creativity? We will listen to
music and then write flash fiction and/or poetry inspired by different songs.

Narrative Writing workshop (Grades 4-5)
Have you ever read a book and wished it ended differently? Have you dreamt of a sequel to your
favorite novel? Join this workshop to learn how to write narratives inspired by your favorite books.

Jokes, Jokes, Jokes workshop (Grades 4-5)
What makes jokes funny? Discuss with a writer from “Family Guy,” then break off into teams and write
your own!
Presented by Mr. Alex Carter (Kenter parent)

Fun, Freestyle Poetry workshop (Grades 4-5)
Come find out how to make writing fun, no grammar necessary! Bring your friends and discover the
ways to free associate and freestyle your brilliant ideas into amazing stories and poems you never
thought you had in you!!

Art, Books, Dogs workshop (TK-2)
Did you know Ms. Deborah has 2 two dogs? Mork and Cleo are hard at work on a collaborative book of
poetry, “The Collected Writings of A. Morkus Dog.” Reading, Coloring and Paw-tographs are in store!
